Safety Tips for Riding Alone

Sometimes a quiet ride alone with your horse can be the best therapy in the world. But it’s also important to remember that riding can be a dangerous activity not just in winter but in any season. Before you head out for a ride on your own, consider doing everything you can to stay safe. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • #1 WEAR your Ride Safe medical ID bracelet!! In the event of an emergency, especially if you are unresponsive, wearing your Ride Safe ID allows first responders and others to get you the medical attention needed.
  • If going out, tell someone where you are going. Be sure to let them know approximately how long you plan to be out and let them know when you return.
  • Wear proper safety attire and proper tack for your horse.
  • Don't push yourself or try anything new.
  • Ride a trusted horse that you know.
  • Always have your cell phone on you or a nearby access spot.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings, including imminent weather.
