Rider Safety in Summer Heat: Signs of Heat-Related Illness

In parts of Europe and the East Coast here in the U.S. we have been experiencing record-breaking temperatures and a massive heat wave. Even in Virginia temps reached into the low 100s this past weekend with heat indexes even higher.  While summer rages on, our horses still need to get ridden when safely possible. And although we focus a lot of times on our four-legged friends, it's important not to overlook our own bodies in this heat.

Thanks to our friends at the CDC here is a great chart to help you spot the early signs of heat-related illnesses and what to do if it happens to you or someone you know. Remember to always stay hydrated and work your horse only as much as you both can handle.

For an extra layer of safety, wear your Ride Safe medical ID bracelet on you at all times so in case of emergency, for example if you pass out from heat stroke, you can get the help you need in a flash thanks to the information on your bracelet and stored through our website here.  Stay safe out there everyone!
